AGM - 2000

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The AGM is a very important occasion for all members to discuss various objects of CASUNIK as stated in its Constitution. It is the time when we have to consider all activities of the Executive Committee, especially the account of CASUNIK for the year 1999-2000 and to elect the new E.C.

In the last few years, we have not been able to conduct the AGM properly. Only very few full members were present at the meeting – just enough to form a quorum. Therefore, we have never had a thourough discussion or proper exchange of views on various problems we are facing.

CASUNIK’s constitution stated: “A quorum at an Annual General Meeting or Special General Meeting shall be one quarter of the Members”. In addition, CASUNIK’s standing order stated: “Only Full Members of the Society who have paid their annual subscription, shall have the right to vote or stand for the election of the Executive Committee”.

This year, to have a quorum, we need at least 11 full membes to be present at the AGM. At present, CASUNIK has 42 Full Members ( 42/4 = 11 ). If the quorum is not met, we have to reconvene a Special General Meeting at the later date. And, unless otherwise provided, all resolutions brought forward at the AGM shall be decided by a simple majority of those present and entitled to vote thereat.

Therefore, the Executive Committee of CASUNIK is urging all Members to make every effort to attend the forthcoming AGM in order to avoid the trouble of convening a Special General Meeting. In addition, the Executive Committee is appealing to all members of our Cambodian Community living in the UK, including young men and women to join CASUNIK in order to boost its Membership.

We have numerous issues to be thoroughly discussed, in order to find ways and means to solve them, such as social affairs, activities for our youngsters, boys and girls whose number is gradually increasing every year. For the past year, the Executive Committee was able to organise only the Khmer New Year, Metta Day and Phchum-Ben.
